Beat University is the first dedicated Electronic Music scholarship fund in America!
It was started in 2008 through the implementation of a simple concept: Throw parties and donate the money raised at the door for an electronic music scholarship. Build the fund over time and then give the money away to aspiring electronic musicians based on merit and need.
Beat University then teamed up with the Pyramind Institute for Digital Audio, the SF LovEvolution festival and supperclub, to turn that dream into a reality.
With virtually no financial aid opportunities available for electronic musicians, Beat University is a way for the San Francisco community to come together in support of the next generation of gifted artists and DJ's.
The scholarships are for use at the Pyramind Institute for Production and Training in San Francisco, America's premier school for studying electronic music and digital audio. Pyramind has been a great community and education center for electronic music in San Francisco for over 10 years running and will be providing "in-kind" matching contributions to help the students get the most out of their scholarships.
In 2009 the concept expanded to include production of a CD to help generate more revenue for the fund. Epiphyte Records, a subsidiary of Pyramind, partnered with Lovevolution to produce their official 2009 Compilation CD which will be donating 100% of the proceeds to Beat University!
The CD took the Beat University Scholarship to an international level, recruiting some of the top electronic music producers from around the world to donate tracks to the album. It will be available for sale at the Lovevolution event and online via iTunes and Beatport. For more information about the CD click the Lovevolution tab.
At this stage we are still building the fund and have not yet granted any scholarships. Our application process will be going live in Fall 2009, so check back often for updates and information on how to apply.

San Francisco LovEvolution exists to produce a celebration of the highest forms of electronic music culture and technology, in the belief that dance promotes peace, love, unity and respect.
Dance music has the special ability to bring people together in the shared beauty of a universal vibe. In a culture awash in conflict, materialism, superficiality and greed, an event of this kind can lift the spirits of those who surrender to its power. The power of dance. The power of music.
We do not dance in the streets to escape the reality of our times - we dance to face them as a community, set to the beats and the spectacle of our self expression.
